Posted: 14-Jun-2010

: A leading private ship builder is going to build a 350 tonne capacity deep sea fishing trawler for a local company.

The ship builder will also build two other deep sea fishing trawlers of comparatively smaller sizes for the same company. With this a local company will build a modern deep sea fishing trawler for the first time in the country, sources concerned said.

The Western Marine Shipyard has signed a partnership agreement with Sea Fishers Ltd, a concern of Sea Resources group, to build the sophisticated fishing trawler.

An agreement in this connection was signed recently in Dhaka. M Shakhawat Hussain, managing director of Western Marine, and A Rauf Chowdhury, managing director of Sea Fishers Ltd, signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations.

Saiful Alam, chairman of Western Marine, major ( retired) Jalal Khaled, quality management director, MS Chowdhury, chairman of Sea Resources and other senior officials from both sides were present during the agreement signing.

The trawlers will be constructed at the Western Marine's Kolagaon shipyard in Patiya situated on the south bank of the river Karnafuli.
